Koli offers many possibilities in wintertime. You can go down hill skiing in two different places (Ukko-Koli and Loma-Koli), snow shoeing in magical packed snow tree forests, ice fishing, driving snowmobiles, husky or reindeer safaries. You can rent equipment from Koli Activ.
You can also go cross country skiing, in Koli there is 25 km long illuminated skiing track, which is the longest in Finland. Hilly landscapes offer challenges and beautiful sceneries.
Pielinen offers good fishing places also in wintertime. You can go ice fishing on the big lake Pielinen or smaller ponds. You don’t need fishing lisences in winter fishing, so it’s very easy. All you need is equiptment for it, which you can rent from Alamaja harbour.
In wintertime is an experience to drive on ice of the lake Pielinen. There is a marked ice road from Merilänranta (Loma-Koli) to Vuonislahti village in Lieksa. It's the longest inland ice road in Europe.
In Koli there is many interesting happenings also in winter. Traditional Christmas, New Year and winter holidays have many programs. In January there is a popular Koli Jazz Festival in Sokos Hotel Koli. If you like skiing, there is three different types of skiing happenings Landscape Skiing, Beaver Skiing and Pielinen Ice Skiing in winter. These happenings suite also to families.
